Best breakfast in a looong danged time!
« on: March 23, 2016, 02:38:46 pm »
And I have no idea what I ate!

It was the company around the table.  And it all started when I left the phone at the house while I was out making morning checks and feedings of the birds here.  When I got in and checked the phone I had gotten a call from a near-homeless wanderer that lives out of a decrepit old Kennebago.  He had spent the night at the local truckstop and wanted to know if I would come break toast with him.  Knowing that at least I would get decent coffee out of the deal, I agreed.

We talked of folks we knew in common, bows and arrows, atlatls and darts, sticks and stones, and more about folks we have come to cherish and respect deeply.  Eventually, he had to head for Billings and I had to head off to take some hawks into a preschool so I could inspire kids to fall in love with the big wide world of the outdoors like everyone in here does.

Thanks for breakfast, Gun Doc. But more than that, thanks for being such a great person. I wanna be more like you if I grow up.

As you know, Del, the best meals are not so much about the food, but the companionship.  Why, I remember this one dinner down in Tennessee where we talked of shoes and ships and sealing wax...and even burst into falsetto voices in mimicry of certain farcical British television icons.

You got the description of said trucker about right :)

Josh is all class and wayyyyyyyy nicer than me. Sounds like a nice morning for you both.

The pleasure was all mine JW!  I only wish I would've had time to meet your feathered charges.  Maybe next time.  Josh
