Black Locust score

My Brother in law recently bought some land and he had a tree he wanted taken down.  I cut it a couple of days ago and salvaged the parts that look to be good bow wood.  I was surprised when I split the wood.  It is unlike any other black locust wood I have cut.  The tree had been trimmed before.

I love finding surprises/anomalies with wood grain. I bet that will look pretty when finished. Try hitting it with a black light and see what it looks like. black locust is downright psychedelic in the black light.

I have some hazel with deep chocolate streaks in the center. It could be caused by anything from disease or damage to minerals in the soil. Just be sure to test the breakage on a piece before putting hours into a bow. Sometimes different can be bad with regard to the normal physical properties.

Whoa. I've cut black locust that size and they are mostly sapwood. Cool staves!

I glued the ends and put poly on the backs right after those pictures were taken.

I cut some BL logs a month ago and they where really dark like yours. Good stash

 Some of the BL I cut from smaller trees looks just like that. I like the look.  It seems more stringy than the stuff from bigger trees, but not much lighter or softer.  Fine stuff.
