That bow looks fantastic Scott. If the belly and back grain looks as good as it does on the sides I'd vote for naked backing and just slip a pair on limbs covers on hunting days.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

Yeah, I'll have to study her, maybe even remove some or all of the flips. I'll keep you posted as I go along.

My snaky osage project blew into 3 or 4 pieces last night, quite violently . Im looking at a few other options now.

Snake bows are a bear, sometimes. The tiller was very close and I was only out to 24-25". Sheet happens!

I had a feeling on this one. I don't break many bows anymore that surprise me. Most have a skeptical area or two that you watch the whole time, just waiting. This one was that. I had a friend over to work on his first bow the last few nights. I saved the explosion for him to witness :)

Hope he didn't dampen his drawers.

We both jumped, even knowing it was inevitable.

DEPENDS are the scetchy wood bowyer's friend!  Those, safety goggles, and hard hats should be recommended industry best practices!

I can see the PA magazine advertisements now...

"Just because your Yellow Wood shatters at Full Draw, you shouldn't have to explain yellow stains in your dungarees!"
or
"Now with extra testicular region padding to protect from unwanted flying fragment impacts!"
or
"Endorced by senior bowyers everywhere"
or
"Also great for those times when you just don't want to have stop or leave the project to run into the house and pee."

For when those yellow stains arent just osage dust...
Grab the brand you understand and can trust...
Primitive leak proof loin guards, thats the brand!
When you need to go but cant spare an extra hand
Now with extra testicular fortitude sewn righ in
So you need not fear when the bow wont bend!

Guaranteed not to rip run or sag,
Makes bracing a wonder and full draw a pleasure!

Tread softly and carry a bent stick.

Dont seek your happiness through the approval of others
