Bow measurements

This may seem like a silly question, but considering I'm only on my third bow (completely primitive) and see so many laminated and fiberglass bows with varying fade lengths and dimensions,
What is the general length of a fade from handle to limbs for a wood bow?

All those demensions for glass mean zero with natural bows, by fades you are talking side profile transition from handle to working limb right?

I use 1 1/2 to 2 inches on most of mine. That's 2 fingers or 3 fingers Del,depending on the thickness of your finger  my middle is a little wider, from use I guess

Me, too, Pappy.  If the bow is super short I might try to crowd it together a bit, but a 1" fadeout is REALLY steep and abrupt.

  Remember, though, that at the overlap of the side flares and the fades, the bow only needs to be marginally thicker.  I'm usually happy with 3/16", which means that as long as the limb thickness extends past the flare and there is some thickness where they cross, the fade can start dipping from the handle a LITTLE early.
