I'm with Bradsmith on this... but if you want a bend in the handle... then ...
wait for it...
It needs to bend in the handle ::)
Halfeye knows his stuff...

If you want to be extra careful just take a few scrapes off the shadow ;) >:D

  Again, Del knows.

For next time, on a bendy handle bow that short, I DON'T like to bend the very tips TOO much, because I like the string angle improvements stiff tips give you.

But, If I am having trouble feeling or seeing that subtle handle bend toward the tail end of the tillering process, I learned a trick.  it's kind of like the tillering gizmo.  Brace it a bit high, like 5" and place a ruler or wooden slat maybe 14" long across the handle, long enough that it touches the bellies of each limb in the same spot.  Make a pencil or tape mark on the limb at each end of the ruler.  Then do some scraping right on the thick part of the handle and exercise the limbs a bit, all while leaving the string on, and not touching the rest of the limbs.  Hold the ruler up to the marks.  The minute the ruler extends JUST past the marks, it's bending.

Update, I finally finished my hickory stick and got it to bend through the handle. It has some sting follow but spits an arrow pretty good with no hand shock. Stats: #45 @27", red oak stain, 3 coats of poly, jute handle wrap, linen backing.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement,
Eric

I think you did a beautiful job on the tiller. I feel the reason it feels like it is stacking is because you have 2" of string follow and low early draw weight. The lower your early draw weight the more you will have to have later to make the weight. The bow may have had some moisture, or was possibly a bit too thick and narrow. Your tiller appears to use all the limb you have. Your only option would have been to lower your target draw weight at the very first sign the bow was taking set.

This should really be a excellent DRY conditions performer.  Being Hickory, you may notice it's stats drift around a bit due to the humidity.  I really like the look of the bend you achieved with it.
