A co worker brought me this yesterday and said he thought it was douglas maple, can any of y'all tell from these pics?

If it were here in Kentucky, I'd say it looks a bit like young mulberry.....

Kinda looks like tulip poplar to me Liriodendron tulipifera, where are you bub?

Doesn't look very maple like with those growth rings and large heartwood in a small trunk.

Not to sure Bub, but all the Douglas maple I've cut has had no brown heartwood

Looks a heck of a lot like mulberry to me, except the bark is a bit different than the ones we have around here.

I'd say it looks like poplar as well. I don't think the bark is right for mulberry but have been wrong before.

I've got a half dozen Doug maple drying, all about that size and they are all white as snow.

It's not mulberry i know that it is some kind of maple I'll have to drill him on it just haven't seen him he's pretty well read on his plant id

Could be pawlonia, I've never cut one, but the bark on young trees looks like that, and can grow really fast.
