Today I got some skins on the Guava

Those are some nice looking timber rattler skins....

Yesterday I cropped the skins on the Guava bow,....I think this bow will look real good once finished the brown part of the skins is very similar in color to the wood, curious to see the results after the Tung oil goes on




I than tempered the Red Oak,...didn't induce any reflex




After that some Rawhide went on the Red Oak

I dunno, this guy sent me 3 big pieces in trade for a bow, told me it was deer Rawhide.

I make my own deer rawhide and have had some with color patterns like that and others not but I strength wise it's all the same good stuff for backing bows, perfect thickness. Did you apply it wet or dry? And what type of glue?

Manny last week I went to pull some leather out of a coffee can I keep in the garage for handle wraps and at the bottom one of my copper head skins had gone bad. Pretty bad smell, never had that happen before. Probably didn't let it cure long enough before rolling it up and putting the lid on. Where are you getting your skins from?

Thimo, yeah I put them on wet with Titebond III

They are hard as rock when dry.

OK, so I've been busy finishing a gun review and working on a couple of my guns,but the last couple days I was able to do some work on  my bows.


The Guava,been doing a bit of 200 grit and waiting for a day when I can dedicate plenty time to shoot a couple arrows and make sure the tiller hasn't wandered after the skins.


The Osage,

I got it down to the early ring just on top of my Back ring and did my final layout






I than got some overlays ready

and the Osage is starting to look like a bow








The Red Oak I'm slowly taking it down, going slow because I really don't want to go underweight



Got some Zebrawood overlays on to match the riser.
