Add a couple more photos, stretch out the telling of the tale, and you got one heck of a great article for Primitive Archer magazine there. 

All that aside, the story has some great elements. I am glad you took the time to lay it all out for us to share your joy.  And thanks for handing poor Blackhawk a hint of glory in the tale as well.  Poor kid, he tries so hard, you know.

Here's a better picture of the deer.  That's the exit wound.  The arrow didn't pass through, but the point did.  At the angle I shot the deer the point would have traveled 18+ inches through the animal.  If I hadn't "short drawn" the bow by about 1 1/2", I might have gotten a complete pass through.

Awesome job! Congrats sir. I still haven't got a deer with archery tackle because I've always been looking for the hardest hunt, turned to primitive archery and found it. The most intimate, time consuming, self finding hunt you can be on.

That's awesome Dave!  I may be recollecting inaccurately, but i seem to remember you drawing that bow back with an arrow for the first time, no string nock or anything and drilling a 3d target about a hundred yards away?

My question is why didn't you shoot him when he jumped the fence?  It was fate my friend!  Yes, that was a beautiful bow blackhawk!
