probably a combo of all mentioned above, but cutting a knot would be my guess

I wouldn't have had any heartwood left if I hadn't reduced the Sapwood. Anyway that peice of Yew gave me a sound tap on the head to teach me the error of my ways!
Now will I actually learn my lesson for once?
