One sweet lil' shooter
« on: February 25, 2015, 01:39:56 pm »
This little beauty has been taking up bench space for months, and I'm finally ready to call her done. I cut this stick down to 55" and started shaping it to accept sinew. Tillered, flipped the tips, toasted the belly and then put down 3 courses of deer leg sinew before letting it hang in the trusses. After final tiller I brought her along slowly to make sure it could handle the bend. Eventually I added rams horn tips, a really nice WDB skin and cork handle (front and back) before covering it with braintan. Now it's pulling about 48#@27" with a Dyna97 string.

Thanks fer lookin, and God Bless!

Looks like a sweet shooter indeed! I have to try that osage/sinew combo someday. Killer bow all around Scott!

Beautiful execution.  Is it osage, though?  Seems light in color, more like locust.

@springbuck - If I could get black locust to do that, I'd have even more of it laid up than I do osage. All my BL gets burnt as firewood. Don't even try anymore.

I love that style of bow.  Short sinew backed osage is a great combo.  Nice job on it Scott.  Looks like a hunter to me.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Nice one. Did you reverse brace after sinew?

Nope, I did add some reflex when I toasted the belly. I started with 3", and the sinew pulled it back another inch.
