Too cool!  How do you get that texture on the hat?  I'm thinking about putting a Santa hat on the walking stick I'm working on.  Josh

Thanks guys.  The matted wool hats are pretty easy.  I use a couple of different round cutting burrs and a dremel for that.  I just hold it 90 degrees to the wood and push down and try no to leave any flat spots.  At one time I was doing it with my Flexcut tool, but i put a chip in a blade.  Then spent two hours getting the chip out without overheating the blade.  For a lighter texture on the wood, I have a few nails from six to 20 penny size with the points rounded.  I lock the piece in a vice and use teh nails like punches, and hit them very lightly.

Thanks Eddie!  I don't have a dremel with me in the truck, but I do have nails.  I wondered if stippling would do the trick.  Josh
