Question Cocerning Farrier's Rasp

Hi guys.

In my search for a farrier's rasp, I've talked with a farrier and she said she tried it on wood and the rasp got clogged.

Is it true? Does this pose a problem?

It does 'clog' but I clean mine with a brush to unclog it so it doesn't pose a problem for me. Hope this helps.

Get you some cheap sticks of chalk to rub over the teeth. They still clog, but the wood doesn't wedge in the teeth as bad and brushes out a lot easier.

That being said,  I've only done it with my regular rasps and files - but not a farrier's rasp. Worth a shot I guess.

Green or wet wood will probably clog one up faster than dry wood.  I don't think they clog up any worse than other wood rasps.

I'm with OO i don't get much clogging, get a card file to clean your files and rasps

  Some wood clogs worse than others, wet wood will clog, hickory tends to clog.

The best brush to clean a file or rasp of wood clog is a cheap brass BBQ brush from the dollar store.

Purple heart clogs it really bad. I just run the rasp backward across my hand to clean it out.
