+1 on Pat's thought.  I use it every time, but mainly to keep shirts and jackets out of the way of the string.

I use mine every time I shoot. The string doesn't necessarily slap me a lot but I use it to keep my shirt or jacket sleeve out of the way. I like consistency is my shooting.

Also, those who shoot with closed stances (erect, right angles to target) definitely need a bracer.

During my FG days I rarely needed a bracer.

What is another reason why selfbow shooters might?

I'll ask that question to open it up.

Never really gave a broken arrow much thought. I am not very nice to my arrows and I suppose digging out the bracer beats digging out wood shards from my arm.

Yep, shorter brace height can be more prone to delivering arm slap.  (Good leading question, Professor Jawge!)  After thinking about the broken arrow/forearm/massive injury thing, I may use mine more regularly.

I find the string hits when/if I misfire. The metal nocking disk on the string leaves a good mark.
 
 Better than nothing for broken arrow protection, but I hear it'll go through your hand most likely.

 I wear mine cause it looks cool.

I dont have a problem with string slap i spose cuz of my stance(closed?) it also shortened my draw wich i think is a good thing when theres wary eyes in the deer woods..less movement=less chance of getting busted, lol. I wear mine for protection from a shattering arrow and all my bracers are gifts from friends so its kind of a good mojo thing to me 👍.... Brian

  I should but I don't. I never seem to feel it but I see the bruises and scars from not wearing one. I seem to get hit only if I break a nock or for some reason make an accidental dry fire.

Ive never tried one. Pain is good for making me fix whatever is causing the slap(usually my poor form).
