Scott would be a great person to learn from.  He might even show you how to knap a point or two.  I'm not sure where everybody is located in Ill. but Greg, Pauly, and Cody would be a couple of great guys to learn from as well.

Dean Marlow is another knowledgable bowyer. Heck, Iowabow is only a short drive west across the river...

I do 75-100% of my bow building start to finish with my Kbar knife. Really you could use an old lawn mower blade. Its all you need.

I do about 90% of my bows with just 2 rasps.  The rest of the work is a scraper and sand paper.
