warning against using dodgy arrows

Thought I'd report this recent unfortunate happening to you guys.  A freind of mine recently introduced a guy to archery and gave him a bow. This guy got fed up of breaking his wooden arrows and against our advice he bought some fibreglass arrows that where seriously underspined for his 60lb bow, anyway a few days ago ,one of these arrows broke in 2 upon release and blinded the poor guy in the one eye.

thought I'd report it, to warn other newbies  against the dangers of usung underspined, weak and damaged arrows....they can break upon release and come back at you...!!!

Dang, that's bad!
Brought a lady friend of mine  to archery, took me forever to get her to examine her arrows after a miss. One time I brought back her arrows from a target and one was splitt in the middle, she put them all back into the quiver, no examination even so we were shouting on rocky ground. Took the one damaged out of the quiver and broke it as easy as a match, did it in front of her face. Now she does it...

Really appreciate this warning cause I would likely have used an arrow that was slightly damaged and not thought about it much.

Poor guy that is bad. I'll be looking at my arrows a lil closer from now on.

This comes up from time to time, and anyone with two functioning synaptic connections nods their heads and agrees it is a great idea.  One of the last times this came up, photos were posted of unfortunate accidents.  I found it VERY difficult to look at those pictures, and I have a very strong stomach.  The one that haunts me is the carbon arrow that "blossomed" on impact with the hand in a way that the back of the person's hand resembled a sea urchin. 

Some time this fall, I am supposed to teach a young woman how to make arrows.  Let this be a reminder to add this little lesson to the curriculum.

is there such importance on checking aluminium arrows? I dropped one in the driveway and it got crushed and cracked so obviously I terfed it. but other then that is there any real danger? cant really figure much more then bending will occour.

I was lucky, I didn't hurt myself using an unknown arrow, but I did break a just finished honey locust bow, best piece of honey locust i've ever seen.

I have a couple flawless looking honey locust staves.  Just waiting for folks to figure out how best to get a good bow out of them before stealing their ...ahem, adopting their designs!
