"Farm Hand"
« on: October 31, 2014, 02:29:43 pm »
Chris Cade(Mechslasher)asked me to make a bow to keep at his farm for anyone that wanted to hunt with it. The stave was given to Chris by Tom Brennan(TomB) a friend and member of PA that passed away a few years ago from a brain tumor. This was a very nice stave with pretty thick rings, a bit of natural reflex and only a few knots.
I only had to use heat to straighten out a slight dog leg near the knot in the top limb. The stave had about 2" natural reflex and ended up relatively flat. The tip overlays are edge grain locust, the handle wrap is hemp cordage and I added a leather arrow rest and the bow is backed with deer rawhide decorated with sponge dabbed with leather dye. She is 66" t/t and pulls 55#@28". She shoots pretty well a my 26" so I imagine she shoots nice at 28". I've put about 50 arrows through her and will do at least 50 more before I deliver her to her new home next weekend. Here are a few pics...

That's a work horse right there Pat. A perfect bow for a spare than would fit almost any bill. Great job.

Sweet!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

Thanks.  Goat, I used a sponge.
Dbar, she will shoot lefty too.  ;)
I added the rawhide backing or a bit more durability, Pearlie. She'll probably need it with multiple users.

Sweet bow, Pat. Nice bend! ;)
