Backstop
« on: September 28, 2014, 12:23:37 pm »
Will old conveyer belt make a good backstop or would it somehow be hard on arrows?
Thanks
Don

I use the Bearpaw Dura Backstop Netting, sold by the good folks over at Kustom King Archery. It's a little pricey, but it works like a charm. I own one of the 20' and one of the 30' nets for our setup and I've never had the first problem with them stopping even the fastest of my wood bows.

Old carpet hung loosely behind the target should work.

We had a pecan tree fall on the kids trampoline. I made a backstop out of the nylon mesh jumping surface. It has worked really well. I suspect it's a bit softer than conveyor belt material though.

We used one at Chris Cade's last weekend and it worked well.

It finally stopped raining long enough to build my backstop. I used a heavy carpet about 5'x5'. When I was shooting about 1 in 10 of those that hit the carpet went through it. I was using duplex nail points. I thought a blunt would be better so I sawed of the pointy bit. That left me with a nail head as the point. Now every shot that hits the carpet goes though it like it wasn't there. Any ideas? Do you think maybe the blunt is acting like a wad cutter and punching out a chunk?
