string silencers

I am just trying to get an idea of what everybody here prefers. What kind of material do you guys use for your string silencers? How many do you use?  Where on the string do you like to put yours?   I have always had good luck using beaver fur, two of them, and about 1/4 of the string length in from the tips.

I put in a strip of rabbit fur just below each of the splices of the Flemish string. Jawge

If you like the traditional looks, you can get the magnum zonkers at Bass Pro which are strips of rabbit fur. It is in the fly fishing section, comes in several different colors, and is a little cheaper than beaver balls. Of course you can use rubber cat whiskers or yarn. I have used all of them over the years, but prefer the rabbit fur now.

My wife finds beaver , mink, rabbit etc. fur shoals and coats at the local goodwill's / thrift stores for almost nothing . I pull the lining and strip them up for fly tying and bow silencers.

I like wool fleece. I've used everything from rubber spider silencers to beaver balls, mink, muskrat and others and prefer the wool fleece ever since Art Butner tuned me on to them.

I like strips of beaver belly hide if possable. tanned of course.

I go to antique stores for fur hats or such. Found a lot of mink and a golden jackal hat. Like 20$ and probly 30 sets of silencers

Also some of the big craft stores sell whole rabbit furs for like 15 bux. Like hobby lobby  :embarassed:
