paper birch bark prep.
« on: September 13, 2014, 11:35:33 pm »
Hello, I've recently acquired a good amount of birch bark while I'm working out of town. My questions are : How should I store it? (I can't freeze it here). Do I try to separate the layers? ( it's green, and not easy to separate). And do I treat it for insects?   Thanks joe

Birch bark is practically insect and rot proof.  If you want it to stay flat then sandwich it between boards or plywood and store inside a shed or garage or whatever.  Soaking in water might help separate it but I have found that the only time Birch bark becomes difficult to separate is when it taken from a  dead tree.
