Bow layout on a stave thats wider on one end than the other

  I might be overthinking this one buy i have some staves split following the graing on each side that are around 2 inches wider on one end than the other. How can i lay a bow out without running across the grain

Probably right down the middle. Limbs are tapered so you are going to cut across the grain eventually.

Yep, over thinking it. If it's a straight grained stave, you can lay it out off of a straight centerline. If the grain is crooked or snakey, lay a string end to end, orient the handle under the string, then remove the string and follow the grain with a pencil from the center of the handle outward toward each end of the stave. Layout the limb widths off of that pencil line.
