Hickory board crossbow
« on: June 04, 2014, 04:22:27 am »
This started out as a hand held bow using a piece of thick rope as a handle but that didn't work any better than just holding it in my hand so I turned it into a cross bow prod. It's now over 80 lbs @27" and shoots full size arrows.
Just a riff cut hickory board 62" ntn with hickory tiller 48". The crossbow weighs 4 lbs. Had to make the stock take down to get it into my van. Fun to shoot and much simpler to build than my 600 lb medieval crossbow which weighs 13 lbs with the cocking lever. Take notice of the tooth brushes as arrow guides, like a whisker bisket. Also notice the holes in the van door in the shape of the big dipper. The grand kids talk me into shooting the car with the 600 crossbow. cheers

Better pics of the tooth brush arrow guides. The stock rail has been cut down a half inch since these pics so the arrow only touches the brushes and edge of bow upon release. cheers fiddler49

Neat, care to post pics or link to your 600lb crossbow? Sounds pretty insane.

"The grand kids talk me into shooting the car with the 600 crossbow."

I wonder how much convincing it actually took to get you to impale the truck...   8) (probably wouldn't take me much,  ;D). Very cool, I saw this on paleoplanet, but it is just too cool. I would love to try my hands at coping your work with this cross bow. Looks soooo fun.... As soon as I am done with all the crap I got ta do, and I actually have some free time, that is the first thing I am gonna do... tooth brushes were pretty ingenious.
"The way of heaven is like the bending of a bow-
the upper part is pressed down,
the lower part is raised up,
the part that has too much is reduced,
the part that has too little is increased."

Pretty slick use of whatever you had around. That's clever thinking at its finest!
