Had a guy at work give me a chunk of maple. It was about 3 feet long, which may be long enough for some billets. I've never split anything like this before(Firewood is my only previous experience) and with my hatchets, it proved to be interesting... Ended up with three pieces, one of which I'm very doubtful can be useful. They all have a pretty good curve to them, but at the very least, it gave me some experience trying to split a log!

I ended up knocking the head off of one of my hatchets, so does maple make for good hatchet handles? At the very least I should be able to get one of them from these three pieces...
