Compressed Bamboo Arrows??
« on: April 15, 2014, 03:17:05 pm »
Has anybody used compressed bamboo flooring material as stock for arrows?  I have a arrow turner made from a router.  Any ideas??  Where would I buy the stuff.   :D

The arrows would probably be on the heavy side. I think they are using bamboo flooring. Bamboo is almost double the weight of POC or doug fir unless it is hollow like a bamboo shaft.

I tried one quick test and was sadly disappointed with the results
there was very little stifness the process seems to have destroyed the spine carrying ability of the Boo
maybe you can get other types that will work but my test piece did not

Thanks for the replies.  Buckeye what type did you try? Do you know?
Badger I was thinking that the shafts would have to be 5/16 anyway because of the density.

So is there a way to just get one board without having to buy a package?

It was a while back and actually now that I think about it    it was a piece of stair tread material don't know if that makes a difference or not
I got it from a local builder that uses the stuff so try contractors in your area

Look at the end grain. I have noticed in boo lumber(flooring) the power fibers on the ends are not consistent with some power fibers very close together and some farther apart. IMO, This would give you inconsistent shafting affecting the spine of the shafts.
