My very first bow was a laminated recurve with Brazilian rosewood on the belly, it held together and shot very well.

Cool. Do you remember any details from the bow? How much set it took, design specs, etc.?

Thats awesome.  :)

It was pure luck, my next 10 bows right in a row broke. I hadn't figured out the relation to straight grain and bows breaking.

You said you've read about bows made from rosewood? Where?
I had to look them up, but there's only very few. I remembered a few, but those now appear to have been Bolivian rosewood / morado / Santos rosewood (all the same), which is not a Dalbergia species.
However, here is one with a belly of Sonokeling or Indian rosewood: http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/topic/5405/Trilam-elb-buildalong-with-lots-of-pics?page=1
And here's some more discussion: http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/topic/40767/Yellowheart-glue-up-problem-
Here's Marc's Brazilian rosewood bow: http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php?topic=45244.0 and more over here.
And another nice Indian rosewood bellied bow: http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php?topic=42601.0

I have no experience with your rosewood but i've used this stuff quite a bit. It's okay in compression....but only okay. Makes a better core in my opinion. I'm interested in how your stuff turns out.
