Having been a firearms dealer for 25 years, I would have to say You made the right choice with the SIG. IN MY OPINION....Kimbers are over rated, over priced, and of inferior quality to many of the other 1911 style firearms available today. I have carried and sold many SIG's and 2 Kimbers. The SIG/Browning I have has fired in excess of 10K rounds with hardly a glitch. The last Kimber I owned(about 2 years ago)..Broke after 200 rounds. Not a fan of the Yonkers boys...The oldest and Most reliable combat tested(Honduras, Panama, Gulf War (parts 1 and 2) and Afghanistan...has been a 1986 Model Auto Ordnance 1911A1.
       Both of the Kimbers were Custom Job compact models. I don't know if that makes a difference, But I would not stake My life on one. My S/B has been My go to piece for personal protection and range time since 1996. It was also my back up in all of the above locations, and My primary carry as a Gov't Security Contractor..

   Enjoy the SIG. You made the right choice..

I own a Kimber 1911 Pro-Carry II; great gun but I'm not a handgun expert and have never owned or used any other 1911 handgun.  The Kimber seems a little heavy and difficult to take down and clean.  Maybe all 1911's are.  It's very accurate and fun to shoot.

The Sig 1911 is our departmental issue weapon.  It was selected after a pretty thorough study by our resident firearms guy (who looks at handguns the way some of us do longbows!).  We tested a bunch of guns and I don't think you can go wrong with the Sig 1911.  All of our officers seem to be very happy with it.  Lots of us were Glock shooters prior to this and it gave some of us pause to think about giving up those high capacity mags.  After their qualification scores went up so drastically, I think they are feeling better about it.  This "spray and pray" mentality that seems to be getting worse is something our outfit is training us to avoid.  Knowing that you are confined to eight shots, you actually have to learn the craft of running the gun, and it has helped our department a lot.  Most fights are over in two or three shots.  Hitting your target is what matters and that Sig will do that as well as or better than anything else on the market.

thanks Mohawk and Howard.i did a lot of research before I chose the Sig.i haven't shot it yet,but it seems to be a high quality pistol.it has everything I wanted in a production 1911.the trigger is about 4 and a half pounds.it is very smooth and locks up like a bank vault.checkering on the front and backstrap.low mount night sights.the fit from frame to slide is very tight.the grips are Hogue g 10 pirana scale and feel great.i feel this is gonna be a really great gun.this is my first 1911,but I am no stranger to quality.this is gun number 62 in my collection.i am really happy with it so far.i need to go shoot it before I give my final thoughts.i need to break it in.thanks again guys,i really appreciate all your opinions.

Yes sir 45lc... Vaquero.... I bought that 4 years ago to celibrate my exwifes birthday... I got a gun and somebody else has her
