and more pics. The new foreshafts are two side notched stone points, two 6 prong judo type points, and a steel trade point made frao a circular saw blade with single beveled cutting edges.
Along with the other stone point four blunts and four target points there's a good selection of foreshafts to go along with the four darts.
Then I threw in some wall hangers to hang the holder, in case the recipient wants to hang it on a sheetrock wall. A few backstrap sinew pieces are in there too.
I have one more idea that would really fit my recipient that I may work on tommorow and throw that in too since I have an extra day now before I can mail it on Monday.

Thanks! Ionicmuffin.
It's been fun making all this. I started out with a differant plan and it wasn't going like I wanted, then I studied my recipient some more and thought that this would be a good present for him.
I kept coming up with ideas to try to improve it as I went and just had to include them which has made me run in closer to the deadline than I would have liked, but I'm satisfied with the way it has gone and I'm pretty sure my recipient will have some good times with the atlatl set. That's what has kept me going on it and just made it a very enjoyable project.

i know EXACTLY what you mean, I had the same problem, started something else and wound up at a knife because i though about it and its super useful for hunting and general purposes, plus based on some facts i collected it would be a better option for my person.

Alright! here is my current status and work on the knife! I have to put at least 2 more coats of true oil on this knife before I send it, I also have to finish the surface of the blade and sharpen it. then I need to make a sheath and send it off! Tons to do and 4-5 days before I need to be done!

Just an update.

In the middle of a family emergency, my youngest Son Elyas had his appendix out yesterday.
have my goodies finished, ready to box and ship.
As soon as I know the Lad is out of the Woods I'll get my recipient's package shipped.
Hopefully before or just after the January 15th.

Sorry for the delay,

-gus

Take care of your family, your recipient will understand if it is late.  Family comes first.  I pray everything goes well.

Yes! I just finished sharpening the knife and its as polished as i can get it. My recipient if they have the tools and desire a better finish/sharpness can change it up, I dont have the tools to get it any further, by this i mean that there are still visible scratches but ive used all the way up to 2000 grit so nothing big, also the sharpness shaves paper but not shaving sharp. Ill be making a sheth and then sending it off.
