Some Arrowheads, Novaculite, Obsidian
« on: September 22, 2013, 02:44:25 pm »
Well I started flintknapping a few months ago, as this site inspired me to try my hand at it. Also I would like to thank JW_Halverson for the wonderful Rock he sent me in last years Christmas Exchange. The Obsidian point is from some of said rock. Let me know what you think and what I could improve upon.

Levi,
Welcome to the sickness  Great start and just keep it going. The more you do the more you'll learn.

All you lack is finishing which like the rest of us will never happen. If those are some of your first your future in knapping is looking very bright :).
When you come upon a track or trail you do not know, follow it to the point of knowing.

Great start! You may or may not know but there is a monthly knap-in at Pineville the last Sunday of every month. If you make it there sometime look for James Howell. A great knapper and super all around dude. Tell him I sent you ;)

Thanks for all the replies! I have trouble doing percussion, that novaculite was easily 4 times the size. I just reduced it to rubble and lucked out. I need to get some quality hammerstones though, I just scrounged around my apartment and found what I thought was likely candidates from the "flower Beds", but they break after heavy use.
