Del - I've3 done exactly the same thing with some yew billets I had a year or so ago. I tried to match the heart/sap boundary......mistake!

Great video Dell.
I rekon I could have made it to next doors garage between that first ping and the explosion.
I keep showing this to friends to show them how much time can go into a bow only to end up with fancy kindling.

I had one blow on me the other day and just grabbed another stave and started work!
Other times I just feel like packing it all in, well maybe until the next day.
I'm hooked on this crazy hobby!

I notice there is an impressive distance record for a Hazel Warbow on the EWBS flight shoot results.
I'm a big fan of Hazel, so that's on my to-do list. I'll cut a couple of nice staves when Winter kicks in. I didn't used to like Winter, but now I actually look forward to it... mind I could do to build an extra wood store... dunno if Mrs Cat will go for it tho' ::)
