Working with hard rock maple

I'm making a bow out of some hard rock maple. It seems a little softer than the usual hickory and ash I worked with. I'm trapping the back and toasted the belly. Because I was told this wood was stronger in tension than compression. I was wondering if anyone had any other tips or advice for working with this type of wood. I noticed it doesn't really work that great with tools. Tends to want to peel up. I hope to get some pics up soon

I am putting the finish on my first hard maple bow right now.  I really liked working with it.  Mine seemed to  work a lot easier than the pignut I'm used to.  I really like the grain structure and the look of the wood better than hickory. We'll see how it holds up.

I have never worked with pignut just shagbark. But I agree I like the way it looks and the grain structure. I hope it works out. I'm making it for my little cousin.
