Another Convert
« on: August 05, 2013, 03:19:56 pm »
After reading Billy Berger's article about the North Ga. Flintknapping and Primitive Arts Festival in Primitive Archer, a young man came to my booth at the event and made my acquaintance.  I gave him a card and told him to come visit my shop sometime and I would try to show him some stuff about building bows.  Well, he called me and we made arrangements.  He was a great student, listening and learning and trying his hand at building an osage bow from scratch.  He had a skin he wanted to use for the backing, and even though it was short, we used it and it turned out pretty good.  He wanted antler tips, slight recurve, and wanted to do some woodburning artwork on the belly.  Well, here it is.  About 64" long, 47 at 27 (I think).  Tiller is not perfect ( hinge on top and stronger bottom limb), but it shoots sweet and he loves it.  Already has me going on a bamboo-backed Ipe for his next bow.  I have lent him some of my copies of PA back issues and a couple of how-to books and he is HOOKED.  And...., his grandma has some deer-infested land that she wants us to clean up.  My, my...I'll see if I can work that into our schedule!

Cool!

That one turned out pretty nice, from what I can tell!
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Hook'em and reel 'em in!

Great first bow!
