Recurving tips

Is it possible to do slight curve tips on a maple board using a heat gun, or do better using steam..?

Steam Is what I would use in fact I use steam on every wood even Osage

For maple, boil or stream.

Maple will turn into butter when boiled, steam is good also but for a mild flip of the tips a heat gun will work fine.

Maple syrup,yum  What Mike said on the bending. I usually use oil and dry heat for mild bending. Much of a bend I use steam, never tried boiling.

I used marc st louis method to bend in a fairly extreme recurve and didn't lift any splinters.he noted in a fairly recent issue of pa mag that he wets a piece of cloth,covers with tin foil and heats with a heat gun.I'm sure I would have lifted a splinter if I used only dry heat.

Thanks for that Bushboy, I am definitely going to try that.  I'm building a ERC bow that I was contemplating adding some flipped tips and I think I will give this method a try.
