Don't catch snakes with your shooting glove
« on: June 30, 2013, 02:07:55 pm »
I was just out target shooting on the in-laws lawn when a little garter snake went slithering through the grass. I know the mother-in-law is terrified of them so I figured I'd catch him and move him somewhere else.

Well of course once I got ahold of him he musked over the middle finger of my shooting glove. I didn't think much of it at the time, and I figured it was better than being on my hands. So I handled him a bit and checked him out. Very healthy and fiesty, tried to bite me several times. Then I took him out back and released him into the grass.

I returned to my shooting on the lawn and drew my glove back to its usual anchor... right under my nose.  :-[

Needless to say I am done shooting for now. I washed the glove off, but that just ruined my shooting appetite.  :-\

HAHAHHA!  I know exactly that smell.  Been musked on many times.  When I get it on my hands I get it off by scrubbing my hands with coquina sand.  It's what dirt roads have around here.  That usually does a pretty good job.  On the other hand you could just not breath when you have your bow anchored. lol
Florida to Kwajalein to Turkey and back in Florida again.  Good to be home but man was that an adventure!

I play with garters all the time and never bothered me.........could be cause I have absolutely zero sense of smell. A good wash and air dry in the sun should help.

Well I shot some more yesterday evening and the smell was gone thankfully.

Normally the garter snake musk doesn't bother me too bad either, but I've never had it right under my nose before. Whole different story then.

I just had to laugh at myself, sticking that glove right under my own nose just after I watched the snake musk all over it. Brain fart I guess ;D

I actually normally touch my middle finger to the same tooth just as I reach the last inch of my draw, so it was pretty darn close to that!  Fortunately I smelled it just before it got there.

I just shorted cheap beer thru my nose and all over the conputer!

Garter snakes are nasty little stinkers.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Garter snakes are like perfume compared to a Hognose playing dead.  They release the smell of rotting meat all over your hands.
