Bushcraft Anyone?
« on: May 19, 2013, 02:59:13 am »
I just wanted to mention this forum that I stumbled upon recently called Bushcraft USA.  Some of you guys may know of it already, but I think there are a lot of like-minded folks over there that may interest a lot of you guys that frequent the PA forum.  I'm only mentioning it because I don't think they would have any conflict of interest with the PA forum or steal any business from here.  Moderators, feel free to remove this thread if you think otherwise.

I haven't had much time to explore it yet, but there is a "Self-Made Gear" section with over 7000 different threads in it.  There's really all kinds of stuff in there (knife making, leatherwork, firemaking tools, etc.), so I would recommend checking it out if you've got some time to kill.

I'm on there, JW, and spyder1958 also as far as I know. It's a good site, I just don't have time for all of them.

I stole their idea for marking a milestone posting by giving away a piece of gear.  My buddy Kyle, that lurks in here from time to time posts over there a lot. n We are going to be doing a Bushcraft event here this summer I expect.  Might even open it up to PA folks too.  Though for the sake of my friendship with Iowabow, we may need to limit it to being a copper free event.  *grin*

I post there more than I post here.  Phenomenal group of people with a combined 1000 years or more experience.

I was bushcrafting back when it was called "being involved in scouts"  but it took me until a couple months ago to discover there's such a massive and diverse community.

There's certainly some overlap between my 'shcrafting and hunting, but I try to keep them segregated to avoid confusing myself.

Whenever I hear "bushcraft" I have to say it in my head in a British accent.

Ever feel like scaring the pants off yourself?  Go to a bushcraft event and announce loudly, "Anyone got a knife?"  The blade-storm will show up on radar from a hundred miles off!

They are all knife porn addicts.

I'm there too.  Same name as here actually.  I don't post often but I do lurk every now and then.

Yeah, Pat, gotta love Ray Mears.

That made me laugh, Patrick.  I think you've ruined it for me.  I poke around on there myself, here and there.

I'm not a member but I visit occaionally. I was a survival junkie (own all three seasons of Survivorman) before I started bow making and I think Primitive Archery and bushcraft go hand in hand in the wilderness preparedness spectrum.  :)

I don't think so but there is a BushCraftUK forum somewhere.  A bit more localized for you as well as folks closer to you/. http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/forum.php
