R/D splice options??
« on: May 14, 2013, 11:17:06 am »
Wanted to get some thoughts from y'all on a R/D Hick-backed-osage I want to do.  i've got some 3/4" thick osage slats and a handle section (also of 3/4" osage) already steam bent into deflex from a mishap stave.  I hate that pretty curve to go to waste!

So which would you do?

1.  glue on a riser section to the ends of two slats so they are 1.5" thick, cut splice and glue together into deflex

or

2.  splice the slats into the deflexed handle section i already have (i have 10+" of handle), with the splice going right up to where the curve starts on either side.  The hick backing will go smooth over this and i can add meat to the handle section for  grip.

I'd like to ask, why the deflex?  Why not reflex the handle?
I'd reflex the handle and splice it.  Then just do what you'd do for #2.

Going for a Deflex-Reflex design.  It's one of a few I haven't yet tried :)
