Flax for making bowstrings
« on: January 13, 2013, 12:13:55 pm »
We are looking for a type of flax seed that we can grow here in northwest Louisiana that can be used to make bowstrings. Does anyone out there have any idea where we can get these? And what type is the best?? We are going to try to make it to the pre-spring arrow fling in February in Mcalla, Al. Hope to get some more insight there. Anyone who has an idea can email me @  pamgruner4@aol.com.  Thanks!!

Welcome to PA, Archergirl. It nice to see another woman in our ranks. We have too few and welcome you among our ranks.
I can't be of help with the flax seeds but I'm sure others that know more about it will chime in soon.
You might try getting in touch with your local Ag Agent of the agriculture/horticulture dept of your state university. One of them should have info about growing flax(or not) in your area.
There are other options for making cordage from local weeds like milkweed, in your area.
