Are a few pin knots a problem on a tree stave (I know they are on a board)?

not that big of a deal if they are placed in the middle of the stave, although i see a lot of bows with pin knots riddling the bow so i think it doesnt seem to matter provided you treat it right.

If you work around them carefully and don't cut through them they are not that big of a deal

What Clint said. As long as you don't violate them they should be no problem.

Half of a pair of scissors is a great tool for working around pin knots.  You can do some precision scraping with the tip.
