Cub scout Arrows

Alright, i thought i would share my progress with some arrows ive been making for some cub scouts. These are bulb nock arrows with turkey feathers donated by MattG. And the arrowheads are compliments of bubby. The shafts are ceder and they are 24" in length. I have sinew wrapped the feathers down by hand and as of yet i still need to attach the arrowheads and cut in notches. Lastly, my sister will be painting a design on the shafts as a crest. What do you all think?

Interesting nock design. What's the value of the 'bulbs'?

that's a good question. i know some of the native tribes did it. These arrows will not be shot because they are ceremonial and will be on a plaque. I thought that the bulbs would look nicer and would make it look a bit more like indian styled nocks as per to the order.

yep, ive nearly finished them. the only thing left is to crest them. Ill be shipping them out on monday

i just thought of a reason why bulb nocks would be an advantage. The bulb is a bigger point to hang on to, so when you have your draw it gets held to the string better without needing a nock that "clips" onto the string, thus you have a shallow nock that would not loose any energy from sticking to the string, and the string wouldnt twang as much because the arrow wouldnt pull on the string.

     Most N.A. tribes, used a pinch grip, instead of the European three finger style grip.  The Bulbous nock area helped in this.  Some tribes used a "Y" shaped nock.

Alright, here are the finished arrows(all but one, the last one is still getting painted.) The design was as close to Native american as i could find. I chose the blue and yellow because these are going to cubscouts so i wanted to make sure to incorporate their colors.
