I noticed on one of the farms I hunt an osage that the wind had blown over...
It's quite a bit bigger than the pic makes it look.

I thought, well, it has a decent straight trunk and no apparrent twist according to the bark. So I cut it:

Looks like decent growth rings and a good early/late ratio.
Boy was it tough to split! It was about 16" in diameter at the base. I split it just small enogh to be able to lift in the truck. The length is about 7 feet.

Looks like 3 staves in this chunk...

I just couldn't stand the thought of it getting cut up for firewood!
