revershandle for wooden laminate bow?

Hello everybody,

I´m actually making a wooden bow in 64", light recurves with bamboo back and belly and maple core.
Thinking now to make a reversehandle on it to reduce handshock and turning of bow during shooting.
Has anybody experience in that?

Also for al little description, pics or drawing I would be very thankful.

Lignum, reversing the handle will shorten your effective draw length and affect your speed significantly. No reason why a normal handle will twist or cause handshock. Steve

Reverse handles are great for shorter bows, but not really necessary for a 64"er

Ryan, they use extreme reversed handles in flight shooting for the very short modern flightbows, sometimes as much as 6" in front of th ebow. I think they are drawing them around 23". Steve

Ya Steve, I been playing around with some reverse handled short recurves. It really helps them draw smooth, and take less set, since they are under less stress. Its amasing how much diferance even a 1 inch forward handle makes getting a shorty back to full draw.

I think I will take the revers handle by another bow project!

But, why only using reverse by shorter bows?  How much does it effect the speed?

Eddie my shortest stiff handled bow has been 50"ntn shorter with a bendy handle.
Roger its only a advantage when trying to get a longer draw length out of shorter limbs because your not stressing them as much.
A 64" bow can draw smoothly close to 30" if tillered properly, so no need to shorten the power stroke on it. If you want to know how much it will effect the performance, just think of it like shooting 45#@29"  now shorten the amount the limbs travel but still the same draw weight say 45#@ 26" which one do you think will shoot faster? obviously the longer draw will out perform the shorter on everytime. See what I'm saying? It only becomes a advantage when your over stressing your materials at a certain draw length.
