bamboo quiver ?

so i just picked up a nice (3" inside dia) piece of bamboo
any suggestions for how to get the center node material out?
its about 12" down inside.
also, can i use the bottom node for the bottom of the quiver?
just shove some deer hide down in there?

well, being the patient sort  took a trip to youtube and found a series of vids that answered my ?
just knock the stuff out and use a machete or similar to scrap the remnants out.
that fella left the bottom node for his bottom.
but it will obviously need protected as that node material is really pretty delicate.
ok back to work-will post some pix when its ready to use

You can also loosely stuff the bottom with coarse grass.  It will hold the arrows nicely and best of all...cheap, eco-friendly, and readily available.

Spanish moss is nice packed in the bottom, but you guys probably don't have any growing there.

A 1" thick(or thicker) piece of foam rubber in the bottom holds the broadheads securely and protects their edged. Thats what I use in my side stalker style quicer.

I know when Sal Ochoa makes yucca quivers, he uses a sharpened piece of conduit to clean out the inside.

For blow guns I heat a metal rod and poke it through the nodes.  I know a 3 " dia. piece is bigger than a blow gun but I bet that would work like a drill to make many holes before you do your machete work.  Just a thought.

Also I have placed leather and moss inside a quiver for protection too. I have no complaints about either.

A heated piece of rebar iron works well follows by a closet dowel rod with sand paper glued down to it. Works like a charm

I knokcked it out with a broom handle.  Then got down inside with a round surform .  Leave the bottom divider.

You could split the bamboo, cut the node material out with a sharp knife (except the bottom one), fit the two pieces back together and either/or glue them back together or bind them together with any natural fiber string/cord (hemp, jute, etc...)  a small cut to size piece of thick leather makes a good protector for the bottom.

I saw a how to where the fellow split the bamboo down the middle, trimed out the node centres then glued the halves back together.

Mine is about the same diameter. Hillbilly told me to use a piece or 1/4" steel rod and perforate it every so often around the edge and it will come out. Worked well in a few minutes. Used a half round file to clean the rough edge. Then did like Pat and put an inch thick piece of foam in the bottom to secure points/ protect the bottom node material. Leather cup around the bottom with sling attached to top finished it off. Had to pet a piece of leather and foam inside to cut down on arrows rattling t the top end.
