European black cherry bow

Hi all

I haven't got around to posting in a while, maybe I'll catch up these days.

This flatbow is from prunus padus. Very light wood, feels like it could collapse very suddenly. My first bow from it.
67" long, 2" wide tapering to 2/5, thickness goes from 7/10" to 2/5". Pulls 45# at 26", a bit over 17 ounces mass. Shoots fine. The stave had about 1/5 deflex to start with, now 1 3/4" incl. set. Fat strike plate and tips from cow horn.

It's not finished yet, comments on the tiller are welcome.

The bend looks good to these novices eyes  ...those tip overlays n nocks look awful similar to some of mine..are ya gonna stain or dye it,or leave her as is?

I have some pretty good staves of that wood myself that should be ready to work soon.
The heartwood seems very brittle,was yours the same?

Thanks all for the kind remarks! No staining planned, just some wax. Unforunately, there was no heartwood at all in these. The wood was rather soft and very light, I guess it would just fold rather than brake.

I have a picture i can post that shows the heartwood if you dont mind me posting it in your thread.
The padus is said to be pretty good in compression but lacking some in tensile strenght.
(only read about it ,no experience yet)

Feel free to post it! I',ve seen pics once, real pretty. Woul've loved to have some in the handle.

I've read the same about the wood. But you can't really tell unless you break some...

Good looking tiller, smooth looking bow.
I rather like the real white stuff, looks a bit like the Hazel I've used.

Thanks Zion and Del. It's much lighter than hazel, hazel feels like hardwood next to it. Unfortunately, I messed up my first attempt at a hazel bow, but the next one is in the tillering already! I'll post it. Blackhawk: should you insinuate I copied your overlays? Well... here on PA is where I got all my inspiration how to do things :-) Thanks alot! You guys sound like I should leave the tiller alone and wax it then.
