Red Elm trade bow

Hi All,

Here is my trade bow. A small red elm tree I cut down 3 years ago and left to try in a friends garage attic.  My first try with "Minnesota osage" and I like it. 66" NTN about 1 7/8.  Didn't measure near the tips.  I left them a but wide.  I like a sturdy bow you can use as a walking stick to catch yourself sometimes. Still need to get the leather grip on tomorrow after the finish dries.



I picked up some natural color powder that I mixed with water on put on with my finger. 
Thought I would leave it a bit primitive since this is Primitive Archer.

I didn't have a tiller tree set up as I'm traveling so it may be a little off but it shoots good. 

didn't take much set. 


Put a lucky stone in the pith that came from a sheepshead fish I shot earlier this summer.

also don't have a scale with me but it is somewhere around 50# I suppose.  I see from my spell checker that I was spelling Primitive wrong.  O well.  I'm a caveman when it comes to spelling.

Looks great. How does it shoot? A red elm is on my list, how did you like working with it?

I like it and floor tillered makes it very special in my eyes :)

That Tiller looks good to me, when should I expect it :)

Nice job, Gaur. Tiller looks good to me...especially with no tiller tree. I like that artwork, too!!

Thanks for the comments.  I was looking into a plate glass window for the tiller and took a couple of pictures with the camera and then studied them.

I haven't shot it that much yet.  I'll try to shoot it some more tomorrow but so far it felt like it sent an arrow pretty nicely to me.  It is a shoot off the hand bow but seemed to take quite a variety of my arrows and did pretty well with them.

Red Elm is one of my personal fave's as well, very nice bow and well tillered.

Thanks all.  I just got in from shooting her a bit more after putting a new string and a grip on her.  I got 170 paces out of her with a cedar arrow that must be around 500 grains.  I shot a heavier cedar that is around 650 grains and it went 157 (slight tail wind).  So not sure where that puts her in performance but I think she flings an arrow pretty good.

I better get to work.  I'm preaching at our home church tomorrow and its church picnic day so I can't use pictures from Thailand so having to rewrite it.  If only I would have put as much work in to my sermon as this bow ;)

Thanks Knapper.  Nice compliment.  Looks like I won't get it shipped til Monday as the post office in town was just open til 10 am and I didn't make it in time.  Maybe I'll have to strap the bow fishing reel on and see if I can shoot some carp with it and give it some more mojo first.
