skinning snakes
« on: May 24, 2012, 12:54:59 pm »
I'm from Texas and while I live in the city I got plenty of family in the country and they find, kill, and occasional hunt snakes. However these folks are mostly trying to get them out of inconvenient places ( horse stalls ect) if I ever have the opportunity to skin one for a bow or other projects I'd like to know how in advance. So if any one has tips for skinning tanning and preserving snakes please teach me?

Just split him down the belly, just the skin, then scrape the meat off the inside, not usually much ,mostly between the ribs, then stretch and tack meat side up and let dry, when dry take it loose and roll it up,nothing else needed till you are ready to use. Very simple, once you split it down the belly just pull gently off the body,go easy especially around the slit toward the tail .  :) :)

You are probably five miles from me.
I'm basically at Gessner and Long Point.
