Couple of Obsidian
« on: April 24, 2012, 11:11:41 pm »
Did these today. The snowflake was more of a 'see if it could be done' kind of thing. It knapped just like any other obsidian.
134 grains

I wish this photo showed the material better. It is kind of a cross of gold sheen and mahogany
95 grains
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

Thanks Guys.
Tracy, I saw no issue with the snowflake inclusions. I was expecting steps and hinges but it went just fine. The only 'issue' I had with it was if a platform ended up with a snowflake right where the pressure flaker needed to go. That would crush so I had to adjust the platform.
George S has promised to haft that snowflake up and put it in his quiver. The other is really to light and it will go in the case. It almost sparkles like the fiberoptic point.
