one nice preform "color"
« on: March 05, 2012, 01:26:20 am »
Working cracked rock can be real frustrating but it is worth it when it works out.  These small rocks take up color some how from the creek and make for the nicest color and patterns.  This stone has fossils and quarts in it and was worked end to end leaving the brown from the edges.  I don't know what point type I should make so suggestions welcome. The size is 4 inches.

Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

Trim it up and notch it/ stem it, whichever you do. That's gonna be a nice one!

I am still making preforms so I will have stuff to work during the mini IA jam next week on the 17th and 18th.  Here is a preform that should, as Will suggested make a nice St Charles.   This cracked stone is a lot of fun but a lot of work.  Hey Don I studied your preforms real close and tried to build the same platforms, which are much steeper than mine were, and I am finding that the ishi stick seems to work better at blowing under my steps.   My quest for collateral flake patterns is starting crystallize finally.

Well this is where I stopped tonight.  I did not get to connect the flakes on the two side all the way down because the rock was too grainy.  I was kinda bummed but was happy with the final shape.  I was going to notch it next week.
