Hog hunt?
« on: February 15, 2012, 01:40:07 pm »
I have never hunted them before but I would like to find someone that would let me hunt hogs on their land. I live in Southern Kansas, hunt with my osage selfbow and would like a chance to harvest a couple for the freezer. I would prefer Oklahoma or Texas but I'm open to suggestions. We are supposed to go in April with some buddies to a place in Okla but I may not be able to get off work as its my busy season then. I would like to do it either sometime here in Feb or March.  I would be willing to make a bow in trade for the hunt as my funds are limited .Thanks for any help in advance.   Danny

Danny,

Drive down to Dallas, we'll meet up and I'll take you to the deer lease.  All it'll cost you is the gas and food money, no bow needed.  O, and the 5-day license is $50.  Unfortunately, the hunting's a lot harder than you'd think from seeing it on TV.  Decent chance you'll go home empty-handed unless you spring for one of the pay places.  Free range feral hogs are just like free range deer.  If you want we can try one night with the night vision rifle.  Don't forget your bow-makin/knapping stuff and we'll invite some other PA folks and have some fun.

If you can find somewhere to go in Oklahoma no license is required up there, but we have way more hogs (and that's good for them).

Well its on boys. Were going down this weekend. George is a jewell and I will let you know how it goes.   I'm stoked. Hope we get a chance with stick and string, but as Geroge says if they only come in at night, that may not be a possibility. We will see what happens. Should be a great time with good company either way. Hope some of the other Dallas/Ft Worth area boys can make it. Danny

Danny,

I forgot all about this thread and started my own.  Some of the guys have posted over here: http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,30907.0.html

I sure wish my truck weren't out of commission.
