I must have looked at 1000 plus osage trees of all ages this fall and notta one had bark anything like that. I aint saying either way without smelling and touching.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

Alright Soy, you got me there.  Nobody's that stubborn ! Except ,maybe myself of course.   ;)  ;D ;D. All that aside, as far north as you are, the short growing season would most likely cause very tight growth rings.  You would probably have to sand the end to see 'em clearly.  Blackhawk is right about the male trees having less thorns if any.  Where I live, the Osage trees have a lot of variance in bark patterns.  In a mile long hedge row , there can be as many as a half dozen different bark patterns.  This to, I will show you when you get here in April.  Josh

Looks like osage to me. If youve got osage trees 35-40 feet high and pipe straight you better try to keep it a secret. Lots of these guys will be tryin to convince their wife why they should go to minnesota for vacation this summer.
