native north americans in art
« on: February 13, 2012, 05:25:34 pm »
recently had the opportunity to visit crystal bridges museum of american art
http://crystalbridges.org/
some background
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Bridges_Museum_of_American_Art

first let me say, if you are anywhere near bentonville arkansas, take the time to visit this museum.
it is free and incorporates a good deal of acreage into the offerings, with trails to outdoor sculptures.
including the last piece in the photos listed below( a pleasant 1/2 mile trail walk thru the ozark woods).
i have visited museums all over europe and this is a world class art museum that will only gain in its strengths.
(minus all the old world classic artists-american artist only)
i have added all the native american themed pieces i photographed.
of course, there was not one piece in thousands, by a native american artist....
hopefully that will change as the museum/collection matures.
there were a very few artifacts(including one quite amazing woven sandal) in one hallway that was dedicated to the history of that area.
many paintings depicting bows and/or bowhunting

thought some of yall would enjoy
