BB Santos Rosewood

[Marc St Louis]

This is a D/R Bamboo backed Santos Rosewood bow I recently made. The bow is 62" N to N with 1 1/8" wide limbs that taper to 1/4" nocks, the limbs have a slight D section to them. It pulls 55# @ 28" and even though I haven't chronographed the bow I can tell from shooting it that it's fast. I glued in about 1 1/2" of reflex and it holds about 1/2" after shooting it several times. You can see from the picture of the limbs that the Rosewood has a very attractive grain to it. t's a very oily wood and does not seem to be bothered by moisture. Here's some pics

The rosewood definitely has a beautiful grain to it. The bow looks wonderful.  What is the white in the riser?  Justin

Steve. I believe that there's more performance in a bow when the deflex is in the handle. I would have tried more reflex and most likely a gain in performance in the process but there was to much grain runoff for me to be comfortable doing it.

The overlays are Buff horn, Tradrick

One last coat of finish drying, Don. Then I can do a full draw

Justin. The riser is built up of White Ash, Bubinga then Rosewood.

I'll most likely use this bow for hunting this Fall, unless I sell it first

Now that is a beautiful bow! Can't wait to see it at full draw. Btw, what finish did you use on that bow Marc?  Just out of curiosity.

Thank you Justin. The same finish I use on all my bows. Alternating layers of tung oil and shellac with a final coat of paste wax

Can I be nosy and ask why you alternate between them. I just used tung oil for my last selfbow and really liked it, went on real easy, dried fast and looked dynamite. Thanks Marc.
