When backing an osage board with hickory, would there be any need to trap the back?

Nope, but it looks very nice when you put a bigger than normal radius on the edges. Kind of rounds it off and smoothes the lines out.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

Interesting question TurtleCreek. Inner limbs, not so much..........except maybe to help prevent fretting is fresh wood. Or to help with reflexed limbs right out of the handle. Probably a good idea as you progress to the tips to save additional weight.......Art

I am still a "greenhorn" so to speak and from what I learned is that an osage belly would not be overpowered by the hickory back.  But I was wondering if trapping the hickory back may cause the osage belly to overpower the hickory backing?

I have a hickory backed osage board bow. I did not trap the back - still shooting strong after 3 years.
